September 20, 2021

Show Notes

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness month, so before the month ends we have a captivating episode featuring Darryll Stinson, author, speaker, business coach, former athlete, and suicide survivor.

Darryll shares the realities of what it was like growing up having to pretend to be someone else to get praise from his peers and finding football–a sport that brought him a sense of community and identity. After a severe injury that would later end his career and opiate addiction, Darryll strugged with suicidal thoughts and attempts. It wasn’t until one fateful day in the hospital that Darryll was able to set a new course for himself. Today he is a mentor for athletes who are looking for direction after their careers. Darryll’s story highlights the importance of suicide prevention awareness as well as how patriarcal standards and mental health sigma can be life threatening.
