March 18, 2021

Show Notes

On this episode of Students of Mind, Jayde takes extra care to walk us through her interview with Linda Stalters, founder of Schizophrenia and Related Disorders Alliance of America as they discuss what schizophrenia is from a clinical standpoint and other related disorders. They discuss the diagnosis, the wide variety of “positive” and “negative” symptoms, possible causes and triggers, as well as how this illness is linked to certain neurological factors.

Jayde then sits down to chat with schizophrenia activist Michelle Hammer who shares her experience as someone living and thriving with schizophrenia. Michelle talks about what it was like moving through the world trying to hide her diagnosis and how things changed once she was open about it, how she relies on her support system as a mode of care, why she doesn’t discuss what medication she takes, and the harmful misconceptions about the disease. Overall, she provides an inside look into the realities of living with schizophrenia.
