Episode 19: Navigating Body Image and Weight Stigma as both a Provider and a Survivor w/ Sarah Jane Thomas

Show Notes

Fatphobia is a pervasive symptom of diet culture and societal constructs that assign value to thinness—so much so that it even seeps into eating disorder treatment therapies.
On this episode of Students of Mind, Jayde invites Sara Jane Thomas, LMFT a fat-positive therapist, to discuss how to navigate body image in today’s day and age. They discuss what it’s like to exist in a larger body, how traditional eating disorder recovery treatment can parrot fatphobic sentiments, the importance of inner child work, why it’s important to have body and race representation among treatment specialists, and what it means to be fat positive, body positive, and body neutral.
