Episode 9: The Mental Health of Black Men w/ Jor-El Caraballo

September 3, 2020

Show Notes

Strong. Independent. Cool. The acceptable range of emotions and personality traits afforded to Black men by society at large. What are the impacts on mental health when a whole group of people is made to fit into a limited box– one in which the consequences of stepping outside of those barriers can be harmful, even deadly.

We’ve talked about the state of mental health on Black women on this podcast and now it’s time to hear about Black men. On this episode, Jayde and Aminah discuss the mental health experiences of Black men with Therapist Jor-El Caraballo. Together, we dive into the societal expectations placed on Black men, how recent tragic events have impacted their mental health, what it’s like counseling Black men, how the mental health system fails Black men, and a way forward.

Join us in lifting up the experiences of Black men in navigating their mental health.
