It’s June 18th, 2020, and cities across the nation are in an uproar due to the unjust murders of several unarmed Black souls in recent months. In light of these events and having the pain and anger of the Black community front and center on all media platforms, we thought now would be the perfect time to have open conversations about Black mental health.

The following discussion emphasizes that Black Lives Matter and the very real impact our collective lived experiences have on our mental well-being.

In the first episode of this two-part series of discussions regarding Black Mental health, we welcome psychologist and activist Dr. Tyffanni Mondford Dent. Dr. Dent helps us understand the current and historic state of mental health in the Black community. We discuss inter-generational trauma, the lack of representation in mental health services, how systemic racism impacts mental health, positive ships in the way certain groups within the Black community view mental health, and the role of the Black church.

Join us in this discussion that emphasizes that Black Lives Matter and the very real impact our connective lived experiences have on our mental well-being.
