October 8, 2020

Show Notes

Like many contemporary societal constructs and mental health illnesses, Eating disorders stem from oppressive ideals manufactured during Slavery–in this case, the thin ideal. Today, Black folx experience a lack of quality health care when it comes to eating disorders as a result.

In this episode, Jayde and Dr. Carolyn Ross, MD, MPH, CEDS-S who focuses on integrative medicine and Anti-racism, Diversity and Healthcare Equity, give us a 101 class on eating disorders. They discuss the roots of Eating Disorders, stigmas and stereotypes, how other doctors fail their patients with eating disorders, and how diet culture is a dangerous trigger.
